About the Author
Carol Denker is a firm believer in new beginnings. She became a journalist at 55, co-founded
a newspaper at 58, married at 62, and published her first book, “Autumn Romance: Stories and
Portraits of Love after 50,” at age 65.
Carol holds a B.F.A. degree from Queens College, a Certificate in Psychiatric Art Therapy from
Hahnemann Medical University, an M.Ed in Humanistic Education from Marywood College
and a M.S. in Psychological Services from the University of Pennsylvania. For much of her
adult life, she worked as an art and group therapist. She also directed a parenting program in
Philadelphia for five years.
Carol’s first professional writing job was as staff writer for the Star newspapers in Philadelphia.
She became an editor for the Star and then spent two years as a freelance reporter. In 2004, she
helped found The Spirit, a prizewinning community newspaper in Philadelphia that she ran as
editor-in-chief for its first three years.
She is also a longtime portrait artist and painter; her commissioned and original work can be seen
at www.aportraitbycarol.com.
“I have seen dreams come true at ages when society tells us it’s all downhill. Because — with a
little effort on our part — age can bring self-knowledge and self-love. These are powerful!” — Carol Denker, 2009
